Oh, I never put my book up.
Here are pages from my paper doll book. There is little to no text in all of the paper doll books I have looked at, but when I implemented this into my own piece it seems like it is missing something. I think I'm missing text. Does the information on the bottom of the coupon page need to be repeated on the coupon itsself?
I'm also having trouble with the copy on the first inside page with the actual doll. Does it make sense?
Please ignore the repeat pages. That was all blogger. It's not really like that.
brochure
I decided to make invitation as my "brochure" piece. Everything in Avondale is getting torn down for a Publix, so many of the business are reopening in new locations down the street. I thought it was just too perfect to do an invitation for the reopening!
This is just an image of what it looks like while closed. (the stroke around the hand is just so you can see it on the blog)

New Ads! Hurray!
Here is my total redo!
This is the first time I've worked with something for awhile and ended up completely throwing it away.
but it's ok!
I feel good about these new ones.
There are still a few things I know I need to touch up.. The white type on the 5X5 is too hard to read.. I'm also going to play with photoshop more to get the tearing of the paper just right. Besides tightening everything up I think I'm there.
I think these ads speak more to the soul of the company. It needed some pretty. It also opened up a good opportunity for my speciallty item.. Paper Dolls!
I need to figure out how to do perforation. That can't be too hard..right? :)

I know I can save it!
I definately understand about the previous typeface being inappropriate. I liked that it was playful, but I see how it can distract from the "pretty" factor. I really like this new type treatment. I've expanded upon the bee line to really incorporate the logo instead of just having it sitting there at the bottom.

Tenative 8.5 x 11
I've made a few changes to this already. but here it is!
I've been wanting to use a bunch of scanned in/ hand done stuff in this class all semester. It was too much when I was playing around with stationery, but now the time has come. Hurray!
Haha! I just realized I forgot about the text addition. Whoopsies!

It's funny because it's true
Ad representing todays loss of faith in advertisers. In a recent poll, advertisers ranked 2nd to last as trusted professions... just above used car salesmen.
funny, and able to use these facts to their advantage.

Chip Kidd Speaks at SCAD
SCAD-Atlanta Writer Series Presents Chip Kidd
Thursday, April 17
7:30 p.m.
SCAD-Atlanta
1600 Peachtree St., Atlanta, Ga.
Chip Kidd is known for his work in the design and literary worlds. His book jacket designs for Alfred A. Knopf (where he has worked since 1986) have helped spawn a revolution in the art of American book packaging. In 1998 he was made a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, and in Fall 2003 Newsweek included him in its first-ever issue devoted to design. "The Cheese Monkeys" (Scribner, 2001), Kidd’s first novel, was a national bestseller as well as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His second novel, "The Learners," was published February 2008. This event is free and open to the public, and a book signing will follow the lecture. Free parking available on site. For more information, call 404.253.3100.
A student in my history class alerted me of this event. I saw him last year and he is absolutely hilarious.

Gelvetica, Tomatica, Heldentica
Three free font downloads. One was made from hair gel, the next tomato ketchup, and then of course toothpaste. I would really like to find an instance where these would be usable. You never know. Maybe I'll make a new package design for ketchup. I see it on a birthday...card for my little brother...
The pictures of the fonts being made are mildly entertaining. You can download little posters, too!
Yay fun hand made stuff!

Two ads that I think are tremendous in getting to the point. The bottom says something like our 8 train cars hold up to 300 people. Then, it shows 300 cars with the train cutting right down the middle.
the other ad was just for fun. Scares me a little. I think of UV rays frying my brain. or abduction.
These are all from a book I purchased at an awesome old bookstore in Stokholm this December. Definately a worthwhile investment, and I don't get to say that very often.
